The riad
A guest house with seven rooms in the palm grove of Tifoultoute, built by hand between 2008 and 2018, ten minutes from the airport and eleven from the town centre.

Our story
Work begins on a plot the villagers used as a dump
Of building by hand with skilled local craftsmen
The riad opens its doors to guests
Seven rooms, each with its own name

The host
What your heart desires, your spirit attains.
The idea for the riad was born more than a decade ago, when Younes, a traveller from the south of Morocco, wanted a place that would show the culture and the beauty of his homeland.
The land he found was a plot where villagers threw their rubbish; its owner was happy to get rid of it. Younes saw something else. Construction started in 2008 and, after ten years of work with skilled local craftsmen, the riad opened its doors in 2018.
It mixes East and West, modern and traditional: art deco touches from around the world, Moroccan stucco, zellige and hand made furniture, in the middle of an oasis.

Tea, books, stucco
High ceilings, carved Moroccan stucco and low sofas. The place for a pot of mint tea and a book, or a chat with the other guests.

Sun, music, the Atlas
Sun loungers, a daybed, music and a rooftop bar, with the palms and the Atlas Mountains in front of you. Open every day from 8 am to 10 pm.

Berber tent, waterfall
A garden in the oasis with a Berber tent and a small waterfall. Daybeds and big cushions, figs on the trees by the entrance in season.

Meals outside
Breakfast in dappled light on the patio, dinner on the terrace under the stars, and an open fire when the evenings turn cold.
Reception open 24 hours a day
Replies within the hour from 8 am to 10 pm
A team that has been with the riad for more than ten years
Transfers arranged from the airport, bus or train
Guarded, secured parking in front of the riad

01 · The riad
Riad Chay took ten years to build. Work began in 2008 on a plot the village had given up on, and the doors opened in 2018. It sits in the palm grove of Tifoultoute, ten minutes from Ouarzazate airport and eleven from the town centre.

We ate fresh figues from the trees at the entrance garden. Breakfast was beautifully set in the shade and we enjoyed our one night stay.

What a brilliant place. The placement on the edge of Ouazarzate is perfect, in a natural oasis with fantastic views from the sun terrace.
